LAS VEGAS -- There are no more perfect records in the Westgate Las Vegas SuperContest as the vast majority of players had a rough NFL Week 3.The contestants going by the aliases Scorpio and Codlock both went 2-3 against the SuperContest spread over a weekend that saw the top five consensus (the most-selected teams) go 0-5 ATS for the second straight week and the overall consensus also go 4-12 for the second week in a row. There are now four entries tied for first place at 13-2: KM Sports, OhioAgainstTheWorld, Winning Angle and 4ViewsFromVegas (which, in case you havent heard, is a four-player team that Im involved with).KM Sports, OhioAgainsttheWorld and Winning Angle all went 5-0 in Week 3 as they avoided the most popular plays while 4ViewFromVegas was 4-1 with the only loss being on the Jacksonville (a 19-17 loser to Baltimore at pick em), which was the fourth most-selected team. All picks of the record 1,854 entrants (actually, there was one no-show in Week 3) went 3,724-5,541 (40.2 percent). After the first three weeks of the season, the top five consensus has dropped to 3-12 ATS (20 percent) while the overall consensus isnt much better at 17-30 (36.2 percent) -- and all picks of all contestants are 12,786-15,009 (46 percent). (Note: the Steelers-Redskins game in Week 1 had the exact same number of entrants pick each side, so thats not included.)The leaderboard is pretty crowded at the top with 30 entrants, including last weeks co-leaders, tied for fifth place at 12-3 with another 47 tied for 35th at 11-4, just two games behind the leaders.SuperContestants pay $1,500 to enter and are playing for more than $2.5 million in prizes (after an administrative fee of 8 percent was taken out) and a first-place prize of $895,482. The contest runs all 17 weeks of the NFL season and well follow it here at ESPN Chalk until the champion is crowned.Golden Nugget leader goes 7-0 to vault to 19-2 ATS overallA Friday Football Showdown entrant named @NFL_Totals went 7-0 over the weekend and is now 19-2 ATS (90.5 percent) after three weeks of the $2,000 buy-in contest at the Golden Nugget that allows contestants to also pick NFL over/unders as well as college sides and totals.@NFL_Totals, who prefers to stay anonymous at this time (though he wont have that option if he makes the playoff portion of the contest that takes place on The Las Vegas Sportsline radio show starting in Week 11), has a 2.5-point lead over RoughRider39 and Will Landers, who are tied for second at 16-4-1 (just like the SuperContest, a win is worth 1 point and a push is worth half a point).Timothy Billow is fourth at 16-5, last years runner-up Anthony Curtis is fifth at 15-6 and FreaksForum and Mucked Nuts are tied with 14.5 points for sixth and seventh place, which is the cutoff for the playoffs. The eighth berth will be determined in a wild-card chase in Weeks 9 and 10.So, @NFL_Totals is 4.5 points above the cut while there are 37 entrants that are within 3 points of that covered seventh spot. The Friday Football Showdown drew a field of 96 players at $2,000 apiece for a prize pool of $192,000. The eight qualifiers will earn $3,000 each and then face off in head-to-head matches between Nov. 19 and Dec. 9 on The Las Vegas Sportsline radio show from 2-3 p.m. PT Fridays on ESPN AM 1100 here in town. Those four winners will each win another $2,000 each. The remaining $160,000 is then split up with $96,000 to the eventual champion (for a total haul of $101,000), $40,000 to the runner-up, $8,000 each to the semifinal losers and $8,000 to the winner of a bonus mini-contest held in NFL Weeks 15-17 for all contestants (even those eliminated earlier). NEW YORK -- Kansas had already gone through a tough loss this season, falling in overtime to Indiana in Honolulu. On Tuesday night, the Jayhawks went from looking like easy winners to facing another excruciating loss. But a short jumper by Frank Mason III with 1.8 seconds to go gave the Jayhawks a 77-75 victory over top-ranked Duke in the State Farm Champions Classic at Madison Square Garden. The play was to [isolate] me, and my teammates did a good job of spacing the floor, Mason said. It felt good when it left my hand.A long 3 at the buzzer by Dukes Frank Jackson was off line. The Jayhawks (1-1) beat a top-ranked team for the eighth time. This was more of a must-win for us than it was for Duke. Not that theres must-win this time of year, but I think it will do something for us because for the first time, we won a game where we shot it like crap, Kansas coach Bill Self said. So hopefully we learned some lessons and know that you cannot be great offensively and still win if you [dont] do little things and play aggressively. So I think it should bode well for us moving forward.Self was all smiles talking about his senior point guard.Hes made a lot of big plays for us, Self said of Mason. I dont know if hes made any game winners, but hes made plays to put us in overtime. Yeah, hes a stud.Mason made a big-time play, and it was well-guarded, Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said. He just made a big-time play.Kansas was ahead 62-50 with eight minutes to play, but the Blue Devils (2-1) -- despite a terrible shooting game by Grayson Allen, the leading vote-getter on The Associated Press preseason All-America team -- managed to suddenly start hitting shots, and they tied the game at 75 with 15 seconds left on a 3-pointer by Jackson.Kansas called a timeout with 8.2 seconds left and set up the game winner. That was quite a play we called, just get out of his way, Self said.I just took advantage of the separation I created, and I just shot the ball, Mason said. It felt good when it left my hand, and I just thank God that it went in.Mason, who had a career-high 30 points in the loss to Indiana, led Kansas with 21 points. Freshman Josh Jackson added 15, and Devonte Graham had 13.Luke Kennard led five Duke players in double figures with 22 points. Allen finished with 12 points on 4-for-15 shooting.I think Grayson had a very frustrating game, Krzyzewski said of Allen, who started the game by making one of 12 shots from the field. I think yoou cant expect to get a foul.dddddddddddd. I think hes going to a point where he makes a move and its a good move, and he expects a foul. Im not saying theyre not calling fouls. You cant do that. That cant be what youre doing. The last few minutes, he moved well. Hes playing hard when he gets the ball, and he needs to play harder when he doesnt have the ball. Its what he did in the last few minutes.Kansas finished 2-for-17 from 3-point range, but the Jayhawks shot 50.8 percent overall (33-of-65), including making 60.6 percent (20-of-33) in the second half.Duke shot 48.9 percent (23-of-47) for the game, including 8-for-19 on 3s.BIG PICTUREDuke: In their first two games, the Blue Devils held opponents to 55.0 points per game on 32.3 percent shooting, including 16.2 percent from 3-point range, while forcing an average of 17 turnovers. ... This was the 950th consecutive game in which the Blue Devils made at least one 3-pointer. Thats the fourth-longest stretch in Division I history. ... Duke again played without freshmen Harry Giles and Jayson Tatum.?Krzyzewski has said they will be brought along slowly as they rehab from injuries.Kansas: The Jayhawks were facing an AP No. 1 team for the 24th time and the first time since the 2014 Champions Classic, in which they lost to Kentucky 72-40. They are 8-16 all-time against No. 1s. ... The Jayhawks opening game was a 103-99 overtime loss to then-No. 11 Indiana in Honolulu. If youre going to travel 11,000 miles, you might as well get a win, Self said.POLL IMPLICATIONSDuke was No. 1 in the preseason poll and the first voting of the regular season. That will change with the loss. Kansas was No. 3 in the preseason poll and dropped to seventh with the loss to Indiana, but the Jayhawks should move up a couple spots with the win over Duke.HELLO, MELOKrzyzewski wa
